University of Technology Sydney Grad Profile

University Background

I have a Bachelor of Engineering majoring in Electrical Engineering from the University of Technology Sydney.

What is your role at Avocado?

Test Analyst.

What have you worked on so far?

I’ve spent most of my time at Avocado working on a project with one of Avocado’s larger clients. We’ve been engaged to test the development of an end to end equities trading system.

I’ve largely been involved with test case design so have worked with Business Analysts and Business Stakeholders to make sure our test scenarios cover all of the requirements the business users have for the system.

After the test cases were prepared I was involved in running through the test scenarios to find any bugs or defects in the system and then worked with the development team to fix them.

What are your career goals?

I’m keen to work towards building my technical skills in the testing area.

What sort of Graduate would you recommend Avocado to?

Someone who has attention to detail. This is important due to the nature of testing.

I think you also need to enjoy working in a team environment and be able to get along with a wide range of people as your team members can change frequently when working on IT projects.

A professional attitude is important and it’s great to be social and to have some fun along the way.

What challenges have you overcome during your time at Avocado?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was translating the Business requirements into technical test cases.

As I studied a more technically focused degree, it took a while for me to properly understand the business area which was heavily finance focused.

What support have you had since joining Avocado?

When we are working on a project on client site, we are always working with other experienced Avocado consultants. We have lunch time workshop sessions from experienced testers about best practice techniques and methods that they use which have been really helpful.

I’m also going to be sitting the ISTQB testing certification (an internationally recognised testing qualification) shortly which will help to formalise some of the things I’ve learned on the job.

Macquarie University Grad Profile

University Background

A Bachelor of Science majoring in Computing from Macquarie University.

What is your role at Avocado?

Test Analyst.

What have you worked on so far?

In my first three months at Avocado I worked on a project that involved replacing existing trading and investment platforms with new more modern and efficient systems.

So far I’ve worked on executing regression test suites to make sure changes in the new releases of code haven’t introduced new bugs into the current system.

I’m now working closely with the business analysis team to generate test case coverage to ensure that all of the business requirements are going to be met by the new system.

What are your career goals?

I’m currently focused on developing my skills and experience as a test analyst as there is a lot of ground to cover between preparing for testing and then actually executing the test cases.

I’m aiming to build my testing skills to eventually move into a test lead role sometime in the future.

What sort of Graduate would you recommend Avocado to?

I think Avocado would suit a graduate who has studied a degree with a focus on the software development life cycles, that knowledge will assist a lot in IT project work.

If you enjoy a team environment then Avocado is going to suit you as the project teams are made up of a diverse group of people.

What challenges have you overcome during your time at Avocado?

The biggest challenge I had to overcome was learning about the testing practices used by Avocado as well as coming to grips with the business problem our project was working to solve.

What support have you had since joining Avocado?

All the Avocado consultants on the project are always available to help me out if I run into any complex issues.
