AI Leadership and Governance Workshop

Give your leaders the judgement to lead AI, and the guardrails to govern it.

65
One-day session
Overview

The AI Leadership and Governance Workshop is a one-day, expert-led session for board directors and senior executives. It builds the personal AI fluency leaders need to make sound decisions, and sets the governance foundations the organisation needs to use AI safely: who is accountable, what staff can and can't do with tools like Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude, and how data, risk and cost are controlled. Run as a Board Director track or a Senior Leadership track, it leaves participants with a tailored AI Playbook, a 90-day action plan, an ROI decision framework and the starting points for an AI usage policy — aligned to Australia's Guidance for AI Adoption, ISO/IEC 42001 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.

Who is this for?

You'll recognise the situation

Boards being asked for a position on AI who want confidence in their oversight.

Executive teams whose staff are already using AI tools without clear guardrails.

Leaders who need to explain AI risk and return to their board in plain language.

Organisations in regulated sectors — financial services, health, government, critical infrastructure — where AI decisions carry privacy and operational risk obligations.

Who is it for?

Two tracks, tailored to the room

Board Director track
01

Board Director track

Oversight, risk appetite, accountability, and the questions directors should be asking management about AI.

Our approach
  • The five governance issues every board should settle on staff AI use.
  • How to judge AI risk and return without the hype.
  • A practical walk-through of the standards that apply to your organisation.
Senior Leadership track
02

Senior Leadership track

Execution priorities, use-case selection and investment decisions for the leaders running the business.

Our approach
  • What AI can realistically do today, including agentic AI that acts on a user's behalf.
  • Why tools can be confidently wrong, change between versions, or be manipulated.
  • Where guardrails are needed first before scaling.
What's included?

What you work through and take away

Governance essentials

The five issues every board should settle: data exposure, agentic capabilities, prompt injection, verification and accountability, and access controls.

The standards that matter

A practical walk-through of the Guidance for AI Adoption and its six essential practices, alongside ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF and UNESCO's Recommendation.

Cost and return

Why AI running costs are becoming a visible line item, and how to judge which AI investments will return value.

Your deliverables

A personal AI Playbook, a 90-day action plan, an ROI decision framework, and the starting points for an AI usage policy.

Post-session support

90 days of ongoing access to an AI assistant to help keep the plan moving after the session.

How do we deliver it?

Common questions

What does this cover for boards?

Director oversight of AI: accountability, risk appetite, data exposure, what staff can and can't do with AI tools, and how to align with the Guidance for AI Adoption and standards such as ISO/IEC 42001.

How is this different from the AI Strategy Workshop?

The Strategy Workshop maps and prioritises opportunities with a cross-functional group. This workshop builds the judgement and governance leaders need to oversee that work.

How is this different from the AI Governance Framework?

This sets direction in a day — leadership understanding, accountability and policy starting points. The Framework is the full implementation engagement that builds your policies, controls and monitoring.

We've already rolled out Copilot — do we still need this?

Especially then. Once AI tools are live, questions about data exposure, access to connected systems and accountability become real rather than theoretical.

Which Australian standards does it align to?

The Guidance for AI Adoption (National AI Centre, October 2025, which replaced the Voluntary AI Safety Standard and condensed its guardrails into six essential practices), plus ISO/IEC 42001 and the NIST AI RMF.

Is this for one person or a team?

Either — it runs as a Board Director or Senior Leadership track, for an individual leader, an executive team or a full board.
