Our story

Over 20 years of delivering with certainty

It started at a McDonald's on George Street

Avocado was founded on 12 March 2004 by Gerardo Barranquero and Terry Doherty. Y2K and the GST rollout had shown how much rides on software working, yet testing was barely recognised as a discipline in Australia. Our first office was "The McOffice" - a McDonald's on George Street in Sydney.

Our first clients, AMP and Suncorp, kept coming back, and word of mouth did the rest. We grew into project services, then partnered with the platforms our clients rely on, and opened offices in Sydney and Melbourne. Twenty years on, we cover the full technology lifecycle, from software delivery and quality engineering to AI, observability and cybersecurity.

Yes. Avocado Consulting is an Australian owned and operated company, founded in Sydney in 2004 by Gerardo Barranquero and Terry Doherty. Our consultants are based in Sydney and Melbourne and deliver onshore for clients across Australia.

Avocado holds Premier Partner status with Dynatrace and Splunk, is a certified Palo Alto Networks partner, and also partners with Airlock Digital, Red Hat, AWS, Microsoft Azure and others. Our consultants hold current vendor certifications on these platforms.

We work mainly with financial services, insurance, utilities and energy, healthcare, retail, the public sector and critical infrastructure operators. Our sector pages show case studies for each industry.

Avocado won the GTIA ANZ IT Service Provider Award in 2026, the ARN Innovation Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (Partner) in 2025, the CompTIA Community ANZ Solution Provider Award in 2024, and Splunk APAC Trailblazer Partner of the Year in 2023.
